We're interviewing experienced veterinary technicians and assistants who would like to join the surgical team at our Huntersville hospital. The successful candidate should possess essential clinical skills described below. The schedule is a 4-day work week with rotating on-call nights, weekends and holidays.

** PLEASE NOTE: All applicants must have at least 1 year of anesthesia and/or surgical experience to be considered for this position or be a recent graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program. **

Our team of surgical technicians is responsible for all aspects of department flow including assisting with surgical consultations, performing diagnostics, surgical suite maintenance, and administration and monitoring of anesthesia, performing treatments. They also represent the surgical service in many client communications such as procedure follow-up and discharge appointments.

Qualified Candidates will possess the following:

  • At least 1 year experience as a technician or assistant with responsibilities in the induction, administration, monitoring and recovery from anesthesia
  • Strong technical skills including venipuncture, catheter placement, general laboratory, anesthesia and pharmacology skills
  • Knowledge of normal patient parameters
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to administer and knowledge of medication and fluid therapies
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision as well as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and good organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for prolonged periods of time, squat, kneel, bend and twist

Desired Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of ventilator
  • Working knowledge of surgical medications and drugs
  • Awareness of safety concerns for patients under anesthesia for lengthy procedures
  • Knowledge of normal patient parameters for all advanced anesthetic patients
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments
  • Knowledge medical/surgical terminology
  • Ability to administer fluid therapy, CRI's, blood products, and emergency drugs
  • Credentialed technician preferred
